SAMSUNG Galaxy S20 – Full Review

Samsung Galaxy S20 is a powerful phone with an appealing design. Although, we have to say there are better versions out there, such as S20 Ultra. However, they usually cost more. In terms of performance, S20 works really well and it’s also very user-friendly. It’s not the newest Galaxy S flagship, but regardless, it still is a high-end phone. It is capable of delivering astonishing results in every field.

Design

If we focus on the design itself, we can notice that it is a bit smaller than its more premium version –S20 Ultra. However, it brings all of the features in a more compact design. The phone is nicely curved around the edges, so it feels nice in the hand. There are no sharp edges that would poke you while holding it. The back of the phone is made out of Gorilla Glass 6, which tapers into the aluminum frame. The front is also covered with Gorilla Glass 6, which offers really good protection on its own. This type of glass is made to withstand drops on rough and hard surfaces up to 5.2 feet, which is about 1.6 meters. You also get protection against water and dust. Otherwise, in terms of design, there really aren’t any major changes. The phone looks appealing and aesthetic.

Screen

Galaxy S20 features a tall 6.2 inch AMOLED screen, which is nicely curved around the edges. The phone also has a high QHD resolution and an option of 120 Hz refresh rate, which makes the content look much smoother. Overall, the display looks superb and the colors are very accurate. You get a very sharp picture, which is due to a smaller screen and there is also the “Always on display” feature.

Performance

When we look at the chipsets there is either Snapdragon 865 or Exynos 990. Both give an awesome performance, just as you would expect from such a quality phone. Sometimes, S20 works even better than S20 Ultra, which is mostly due to the smaller screen that the device needs to power. In terms of graphic unit, the phone is equipped with Adreno 650 or Mali-g77 MP11. Both have pretty decent graphic rendering, which makes this phone appropriate for many uses, including gaming. However, you should keep in mind that it can heat up after heavy use. Galaxy S20 has 8 GB of RAM which is more than enough for an average user. It is also enough to run most of the games. In case gaming is your thing, this is a good choice, however probably not the best one. For that, you should look into something with more RAM. But don’t worry, it still is among the top choices, after all, this is a high-end phone that has some quality behind it.

Camera

Now let’s move to camera capabilities. Samsung Galaxy S20 has three cameras: a 12 MP main camera, a 12 MP ultra-wide camera, and a 64 MP telephoto camera with 3x hybrid optical zoom. Photos made during day hours look excellent. The camera captures a lot of detail and photos are generally very sharp and high quality. However, with zooming the quality will decrease, so we recommend you not to zoom too deep into the frame as you will capture more noise. Still, a telephoto camera without zoom can produce even better photos than the main camera. It will capture more detail, less noise and photos will be sharper and in general, look more attractive. Nighttime photos are surprisingly good and so are low light photos, which are simply excellent. However, it may interest you that there is no night mode.

Video

The camera can make amazing 4K videos. You have the option of filming at 30 fps or 60 fps. Footages taken in either mode will look pretty decent and there really are no major problems with the video quality. S20 also has an awesome feature, which is 8K videos at 24 fps. Such videos are taken with a 64-megapixel camera and they look much nicer than 4K footages.

Battery

The battery life is not really the best and is kind of the biggest flaw of this phone. Galaxy S20 is equipped with a 4000 mAh battery, but it only lasts about 70 – 80 hours. That is significantly less than what the newer S21 has to offer. The bright side is fast 25W charging, which can bring the battery from 0 to 100% in less than an hour. The phone also comes with fast wireless charging as well as reverse wireless charging, which gives you the option of powering other devices with your phone.

Final thoughts

To conclude, Samsung Galaxy S20 is a great phone that comes in a more compact design. It provides the user with many cool features that only the best phones have. The camera settings are awesome, the display features a high refresh rate and an attractive design with a curved screen. It gives you the benefit of a great chipset and a highly capable GPU. S20 truly gives you the perfect ratio of price and quality.
