SAMSUNG Galaxy A12 – Full Review

Samsung Galaxy A12 is a phone that will bring you the experience of premium brand on a budget. This is a perfect choice for any of you that are looking for a good and affordable entry level phone. The overall performance is good and it covers all the basic features that a good phone needs. However, do not compare it to the newest flagships. Still, the battery life on A12 beats most of the competition.

The design is beautiful and aesthetic, however, this is an entry level phone, so it lacks that special something that makes premium phones more attractive and desirable. The front is naturally covered with glass, while the back is made out of plastic. Additionally, the back has diagonal stripes, which add extra grip and make phone feel more secure in a hand. Then it all joins into a plastic frame. So we can see that Samsung saved some money on the materials that are not as protective like the ones we get with more expensive phones. So it is recommended you get a case as well, if you accidentally drop your phone. Otherwise, the phone is quite easy to hold and it’s also not slippery.

Galaxy A12 features a 6.5 inch LCD display. You will notice right away that this is a PLC display and not AMOLED like on most Samsung phones. Also the resolution is smaller compared to more expensive phones. Here you get only 720p resolution, but you can enjoy the advantages of a big screen, despite lower pixel density. The content looks good and then colours are more or less accurate. Brightness settings are pretty much standard, so there are no surprises here.

A12 comes with Mediatek MT6765 Helio P35 chipset built on a 12 nanometer process. This is somewhat of a midrange chipset, which still performs well and is appropriate for all sorts of uses, including gaming. Although, it might not be the best gaming experience you’ve had in your life. Most of the apps will run smoothly, however keep in mind that very demanding games might require more of a high end chipset. The built in GPU is PowerVR GE8320, which can run up to 680MHz. It also supports the latest standards As far as memory goes, you are most likely to get a version with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. However, there are also options for 3GB or 6GB of RAM, but 4GB is the most popular one. Also the built in storage might come up to 128 GB or be as low as 32GB. So pay attention to that when purchasing the phone. The amount of RAM you get is sufficient for most games. However, if you intend on playing some more demanding games, then you should seek out something that has 8GB of RAM at least. Anyway, the basic games will work great, so that will not be a problem.

Galaxy A12 has a quad camera setup. It is equipped with 48 MP main camera, 5 MP ultrawide camera, 2 MP macro camera and a 2 MP depth sensor. The daytime photography is looking surprisingly good, especially for a budget phone. The photos taken with a main camera come out very sharp with a lot of detail and a wide dynamic range. There is also practically no noise and colours are very accurate. You can also make very decent selfies with 8 MP selfie camera. The subject is nicely exposed with a high level of detail. Close up shots taken with macro camera look okay, but do not have as much detail as you would expect. Also, there is more noise in the photos. Low light photography is not the best. Dynamic range is pretty narrow and images are sort of noisy. Colours remain good, but highlights and shadows do not look their best. However, for a basic user all this might not pose a problem. These are details that some may not even care about. So basic users should still go for this phone, however professionals might search for more expensive phone with better camera. Video recording is nothing special and is very basic. You can record up to 1080p at 30 fps. Video quality is average, however sharpness is good and there is also very little noise.

The battery life on Samsung Galaxy A12 is one of the best ones ever and beats most of the competition out there. The phone comes with a large 5000 mAh non-removable battery. It can last over 120 hours on a full charge, depending on the usage of course. But no matter what you are doing it will last the whole day. So you don’t have to worry about running out of power. However, once you do, it can take a while to get back to 100%. It can take over 2 hours to get to a full charge again, despite fast 15W charging ability.

Final thoughts

To conclude, Samsung Galaxy A12 is a good phone for basic users and beginners. You can buy it as a gift for your kid and surprise them with their first smartphone. A12 offers a lot at a very affordable price, which makes it a perfect entry level phone. This is a perfect budget choice that you will be satisfied with.
